Father and Mother of the Bride:
Mr. and Mrs. Jess and Ofelia Lacaba | Cerritos, Calif.
April's father Jess was born in Cebu, Philippines where he attended the Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later took on a job as an engineer on a cargo ship. When an injury at work caused him to go ashore in America, he met Ofelia, a registered nurse who was born in the Philippines’ province of Samar.
Ofelia, who was raised in Manila and graduated from Philippine Christian College – Mary Johnston School of Nursing and later, was the first of her family to immigrate to America. Ofelia ended up in the United States by way of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
On May 20, 1978,
Jess and Ofelia were married in Artesia, Calif. Less than a year later, April was born in Bellflower, Calif. on April 13, 1979. When April was a child, Jess became a messenger for Red Arrow Messenger, a service carrier of UPS and after 14 years, he retired to spend more time at home. While April was still in college, her father returned to work with the INS but retired once more after April graduated.
Meanwhile, Ofelia left her bedside nursing duties and was promoted to a Health Facilities Evaluator before retiring after 30 years of service for the County of Los Angeles. April’s parents are currently enjoying the retired life traveling and spending time with their other “kids” – their three dogs: Jiminy, Jack & Jill.
April loves her parents very much and thanks the Lord for blessing her with God-fearing parents who love and support her. She prays that they will continue to enjoy their retired years and hopes to one day be able to be as loving to her children as her parents have been to her.
Father and Mother of the Groom:
Rev. and Mrs. Michael and Michelle Wu | Temple City, Calif.
Jeremy's father Michael was born in Hong Kong where he
grew up as the son of an engineer. He later moved to Canada when he was a teenager and got a high school diploma while working at a local bakery in Calgary, Alberta. It was while he was taking classes towards his degree in Physics that he met and fell in love with Jeremy's mother, Michelle.
Michelle was born and raised in the Southern Chinese province of Quangdong. She lived life on a farm and at the age of nine was sent off to Calgary to join the rest of her family. There, she met Michael and the two hit it off like Sonny and Cher.
On a rainy day in 1974, the couple enjoyed the splendor of Banff National Park together. While sitting in the car, Michael proposed and the two were marred on August 10, 1975. After receiving his degree from the University of Calgary, Jeremy's father decided to pursue a Master of Theology at the Dallas Theological Seminary. On May 19, 1980, Jeremy was born at the Baylor Medical Center in Waco, Texas.
After living and raising a family in Dallas for several years, Michael and Michelle returned to Calgary once more. Michael served as the pastor of a young Chinese church while Michelle raised the kids and worked part time as a registered nurse. In the summer of 1990, the Wu family moved once more at the beck of Michael's career to El Monte, Calif. and they have remained in Southern California since.
Jeremy looks up to his parents greatly and constantly boasts to himself about how great a job his parents did raising him. He loves them both very much and knows that they love him and support him 100% in everything that he does, no matter how silly or inane it might be.
