The wedding ceremony will be conducted at Bel Air Presbyterian Church in the scenic hills of Bel Air in Los Angeles, Calif. on Saturday, April 19, 2008 beginning promptly at 3 p.m.
Bel Air Presbyterian Church was founded in 1946 and has become one of the most influential churches in Los Angeles. It is the church that former President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan,
attended on Sundays after leaving office. The church had over 2,000 members as of 2005, making it one of the largest Presbyterian congregations in the United States.
The church sanctuary organ was the world’s largest digital/pipe combination organ at its dedication in 1996 and is world-renowned in the organ and classical music communities. The church is currently led by Senior Pastor, Dr. Mark Brewer.
The story behind April and Jeremy coming to choose Bel Air Pres as the site of their wedding goes back to a friend's birthday dinner on July 31, 2004. Jeremy had heard about the church while he was in school at USC. Bel Air Pres was also a Christian group on
campus. However, it was at Enoch's birthday that April first saw photos of the sanctuary. The party was held at Enoch's cousin's house and they had wedding photos hanging up in the hall. April immediately fell in love with the natural lighting and the beautiful cherry wood finish to the hall. Of course, 2004 was a long ways off from 2007 so we each just filed that information in the back of our minds.
It wasn't until 2006 that we visited the church randomly one day. It was a Saturday in the summer and we were on the west side of Los Angeles so we drove up the 405 to peek in on it. It was a little surprise that Jeremy had thought up for April. No one was around that day but the sanctuary was open so we walked in and looked around and sort of imagined what our wedding might look like in there. Then, the organist showed up and started practicing for a wedding service. What a
magnificent sound that was. Then just last spring, we attended a Sunday morning service there as guests.
When Jeremy finally proposed in May 2007, one of April's first tasks was to get in touch with the church and see about booking it for the wedding.
Things were a little bleak at first with the calendar for the next year still unsettled but together, we put in our request and a couple of weeks later, heard back that we had made our reservation. We were to be married in the church on Saturday, April 19, 2008. Praise God!
The most important component to April and Jeremy's relationship is their shared faith in Christ Jesus. We believe that it is what has maintained our strong relationship to each other. Right from the beginning, we each proclaimed to the other that Christ would be the foundation of our relationship before we went any further. From that day on, although not everything has been pure smooth sailing, God has truly blessed our unity and we praise and honor His provision in our lives. But a small symbollic gesture of our faith, it was very important for us to be married within the church and under the watchful, loving care of our Father in heaven.
